Australian ginger syrup is a product made from Australian ginger, also known as Finger Lime (Citrus australasica). It is a sweet syrup prepared by combining the juice of the Ginger with sugar and sometimes water, and then cooking it to obtain a thick and concentrated syrup.
Ginger syrup gives a spicy, sweet accent to dishes and can be used as a seasoning: in sauces such as cocktail, curry and satay sauce, in dressings and dips, for glazing meat and poultry, on desserts such as ice cream, pudding, yogurt and custard, on fresh fruit and fruit salads, on pancakes and poffertjes and in coffee and tea.
When frying chicken pieces or other meat, add a dash of ginger syrup last and let it heat up for a few minutes for a sweet accent to your meat.
